Scare

I completely forgot to share my near-heart-attack story. This happened at one of our relaxing beach days. We were having a great time (de de de de de) the kids were searching for sand dollars. ("look mom!") all was right with the world ("what can be better than this?"). When all of the sudden ("wait a second I'm sort a kid...ok who's missing?") we realized that McKenna was missing ("Where did she go?") I started looking up and down the beach. When I realized I couldn't see her anywhere I enlisted Jared, Cameron, Cathe, and Gunnar. Cathe and Gunnar started up the beach-Jared went down-Cameron headed to the lifeguard. Jared sent me back to where we had made our little camp for the day. (He watches way too much tv why do they always send the mother back to wait?)

Minutes are passing....here are some thoughts that flew through my head

She's fine.
more minutes..
Boy is she going to get a talking to?
more minutes...
What was she thinking?
More minutes...
Ok I'm going to beat that child.
More minutes...
Oh please let us find her
More minutes...
WHERE IS SHE!!!!
Did she drown?
Did she get taken?
WHERE IS SHE!!!

At this point Jared is way down the beach and Cathe and Gunnar are way up the beach. I am scanning and can't see her anywhere. Cameron has contacted the Lifeguards they are going to call the coast guard. Jared turns around empty handed and started walking back. At this point I am in a panic. (Yes, I am crying a little--freak out mom here.) I run down to Jared and all of the sudden WAY WAY in the distance I see a bright blue suit (could it be? oh please let it be) I point it out to Jared who takes off running. Needless to say it was her! (Whew) also needless to say she did not get a talking to (at least not right away), she did not get beat, but got a big tight hug from her mom and dad. I think that is the worst scare I have had in a long time! She was busy finding sand dollars and didn't realize how far down the beach she had gotten. After that I stared taking head counts a little closer together.

  1. I know your pain. I lost Brayden at the beach too. I didn't mention it on my blog though because I'd already said how we lost Lelia at Sea World.(I'm sure a mom of the year award is in my future)
Glad your story has a happy ending too. That is so scary.

  3. Oh how scary. I hate that feeling when you try to tell yourself everything is fine but you think of all the ways it might not be fine. I am glad McKenna was just up the beach and that she got a big hug.

  4. That is a very spooky Halloween story, it makes me feel kind of nauseous! I'm glad she turned up, those panic moments are not fun.
