Bad Mom Award

I know lots of you vie for this prestigious honor but really I maybe the most deserving. I mean if you tally all the stupid stuff I've done over the years I could probably win hands down....there was the "setting my newborns car seat on an ant home...not realizing it till she had been bitten repeatedly"....the "not taking my son to the doctor after he jumped out of a second story window and he limped for weeks" (in my defense there really wasn't anything they could have done)...the "ooops I left my child in the car" (I know we can all add that one) and countless others I shall refrain from sharing but here's the latest.......

Gunnar has squinted for years and McKenna complained all last year about not seeing good.....I kept putting off taking them to get their eyes tested cause we just didn't have the money or good insurance.....now that I REALLY have neither I figured before school started (and thanks to a gracious donor) we should go get them checked. Well, you guessed it they both needed glasses! Gunnar ended up getting contacts (he informed me he was too cool for glasses)....all the way home he kept saying "I CAN SEE! HEY I CAN READ THAT SIGN! YOU DON'T KNOW HOW GREAT IT IS TO SEE". With each statement I kept feeling smaller and smaller. Poor kids. Lucky me--I will get a replay of my bad motherness when McKenna's glasses come in next week.

  1. My mom had the same experience with my little sister, she drove home from the optometrist and got to explain to little Amanda that the things on the trees were "leaves".

    I love the story :)

  2. So glad there is another mom in the "bad mom" group with me :)

I did it with Steph when she broke her leg. It wasn't swollen or deformed or anything. i kept telling her just walk on it it will make it better...5 days later at the urgent care, while looking at the x-ray of the large CRACK in her tibia, I was awarded mother of the year by the doctor.

  6. funny story. I think we as moms do these things purposely just so we have something to laugh about later (right?!?)..... I mean we have to have something to lighten our spirits sometime.
By the way, I think your are an amazing mom!

  7. Tricia you are an awesome mom! I could write down a million bad mom things I do! I didn't know if you knew this but........ We really do these things so that when our kids do stuff like this when they are parents they won't feel so bad. I love the pictures your sister in law took they are awesome!
